Headunit Question./Preferrance

Recently I just got hired to work for the wonderful people at Coca-Cola Enterprises... they pay great and I should be able to save some cash for college (Currently 2nd Year) and buy some MODS for my car... My first is gonna be a headunit... I love the Sony Explod Headunits they're nasty... But I've been told by some people that you can only hook up Sony Subs, and Amps to them is that true? I also heard that Sony have blue cones for their Subs which would go great with my blue decals, and semi blue interior. If I don't buy a Sony does anyone have any suggestions on what to buy? (Alpine,Clarion,Kenwood, etc.)
Thanks

Clarion is my fav head. Pheonix gold amps, JL audio subs, Canton component system. Little pricy, but when its done its definitely worth every penny. It is a force not to be reckoned with.

I personally love the Sonys too. Lots of power, built in x-overs on the higher end ones, and gobs of features. It is not true that you can hook up only Sony equipment to them, that is BS. The X-plode series subs are red, Alpine has some blue cone subs though. All of the other manufactuers you listed make good stuff to and don't let anyone tell you differently. Get what you like not what someone else says to get. Here are some Sony pics in my car. The older one is the CDX-C7000 and the newer one with no buttons on the outside is the CDX-M600. Pleases excuse the picture quality on the old ones.

I have a sony xplode...the one that folds down and all that fun stuff. I don't have sony equipment hooked up, and my sh*t rocks...I love that headunit.

I would go with a Pioneer head unit. They are best to me and the 9000 series with the organic display is the coolest of all. Although I have heard that the nakamachi is a top level unit even though it is just really plain in its design.

The Pioneer 9000 series is great. I had one on my old Tiby. The only aditional advice is to look for system with aux. source so you can hook up an mp3 player or pda to your car.

Actually you can get almost every name brand deck with a built in MP3 player here now, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure all of them have it but I still feel that aux input is nice to be able to connect say an mp3 player like a juke box with 20Gb of disc or say your own IPAQ with media player with flash card size disk of 1Gb being able to record hundreds to thousands of songs. I know there are decks that can read mp3 files but one at a time. But say Jukebox with 20 Gb you need an input to connect so if you are buying know, beides loking for a deck that plays mp3 look for one that has the aux. in. With the players you can design your own lists of the songs recorded and some even have the album name, song name, group etc. which is nice.
