Digital Dash/On board Dyno software

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you all know about an awesome new gadget I've been playing with. If you own a Palm or Pocket PC you HAVE to get this. Check out www.obdmeter.com for details.
I went ahead and made an in car mounting system for my Pocket PC so I can have a kinda of Digital Dash to be able to view all my OBDII sensor outputs. This program is awesome!! It also allows you to record up to 6 different inputs over a period of time up to 15min! For example I was able to record the output from my O2 sensor, Manifold Pressure, and RPM. After done with recording the outputs you can replay the sensor log or output it to an Excel Spreadsheet for viewing later....
Oh, and it also will read and clear check engine light codes!!!

Here's a couple of pics of my setup (yeah I know I'm a geek)

I was monitoring my A/F ratio on this screen

I've got a similar program to run on my laptop. (www.obd-2.com)

It's fun to play with and record settings, but also to find out how various mods affect your engine. Being able to read CEL codes and reset them is also a HUGE plus.

so can you read when the purge valve opens?

The problem is only the first 20 or so of ECU codes are "universal" OBD codes and programmed into the software. You can monitor the others, but unless you know WHAT that memory address is, it won't do you any good.

Good point Random. I wish I would have had this Software before the Turbo install. It definitely comes in handy when troubleshooting fuel management problems. For instance, I can tell you that 5psi is the absolute limit I can boost to utilizing the stock fuel system on my '03 Tiburon. Without being able to raise the fuel pressure I start to run lean and the ECU cuts fuel and timing to make sure I don't melt a piston. eek!
It also tells me that with the right programming this ECU would be able to handle most anything you can throw at it without the need for a Piggy back system. Too bad REAL is charging an arm and a leg to re-program it. They want me to pay for plane tickets/lodging and supply a dyno for the tuning to take place. Yet another reason to live in California... flaming_

Why not drive your car to Cali for a vacation and get it tuned there? of course...if you ever make changes...you'll have to drive back and get it retuned.! frown

Not to bring up the dead, but how did you mount that?

KillerShark68 05-04-2003 08:35 AM

Hey make me a copy of the program Ill pay you 10 bucks for it, than ship it to me :D

Also, how did you mount the Pocket PC to the car?

Choopi 05-04-2003 12:23 PM

You do know that you will still need a Wire to go from the Serial port of your PDA to the OBDII sensor.. right?

If so, I just thought I would help.. smile.gif
