Reminds me a lot of the Hyundai Nuvis hybrid that I was looking at earlier:

I like the design, it's definitely not a Tiburon successor, but I still find the design pleasing. I'm a bit disappointed on the engine performance... The Nuvis was looking at 228 HP, almost a 100 less for the Velostar. So it'll be LESS peppy than my current 00 Tiburon? Yet it has a 6 spd transmission? Humm....
I won't be picking up one new, but if I was in the market for a used car a few years from now? Definitely give it a serious consideration.

I think they're trying to push the 40mpg and strive for fuel efficiency. The 2011 Elantra was noted as one of the most fuel efficient cars at the LA Auto Show.
A big draw to me is the light weight - 800lbs. less than the Genesis Coupe. Almost as lightweight as the Mini Cooper, but quite a bit larger.
I see the Nuvis as a crossover - maybe replacing the Tuscon. More power and heavier weight.

The more I look at the pictures comparing the two, the more I'm convinced that the Velostar was based on the chassis prototyped for the Nuvis.
majik, you're right that the Nuvis is listed as a crossover vehicle and is 900 lb heavier, but I think the majority of that is for the additional electric motor and batteries since the Nuvis is a hybrid.
(200+ hp hybrid/coupe/crossover? yes please!)

Unless plans have changed, there is a high likelihood of a 200hp +/- turbocharged 1.6l with DI in the Veloster.
I will probably actually buy one of these once/if there is a turbo version. I wouldn't mind it with the current engine, but it isn't something that is very exciting to me at 138hp.
