If you want it to last a little longer than rubber, try some ultra high molecular weight polyethylene sheeting or tubing and cut it to fit. Also called UHMW.

They also prevent the spring wearing a hole in its perch, but most people won't have a car long enough to use the pads for anything but squeak prevention.

that would be nice, some poly bushings ! would make for a real hard ride though... besides the rear upper rubber is built into the insulator assembly, it would have to be cut out and some of that UHMW put in its place... its about an inch thick though, do they make that stuff that thick ? the bottoms are no problems as they are just rings about 3/16 in. thick. im starting to get some squeak in the rear lowers also, so this new stuff im putting in is over due !

Most people won't have their car for 50k miles? You do know the whole assembly needs to be replaced by that time right? And there wouldn't be a hole in the perch before that. Like Faith said, it's for squeeking/knocking.

50k miles is your imaginary number, not mine. Add 110,000 to it and you've got the number of miles on the struts on my car. The springs don't squeak AFAIK, and have not rubbed a hole in their perches yet but I did put a bit of rubber between them and the perch last time I was in there. I drive on good quality roads. NEED to replace shocks (and spring perches on them): none.

And yes, MOST people don't keep a car this long. http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/news/tag...eep-their-cars

Ugh....

50k is not an imaginary number. It is the general rule for strut/spring replacement.

Some people take care of their cars and do the required maintenance. Dust off your owner's manual and take a look.

some people just never do maintenance.

my original springs and struts were on for 70k miles, then i put the eibachs and GR2s on, now at 125k and all i gotta say is, its time again. ive always driven her hard so she needs it.

the tops of my front insulator assembly (see above diagram) has cracks in the rubber, you can see it from the top when you pop the hood. so i bought new ones as well from KYB.
