Hey guys...I'm having an issue with water leaking into the first pod of my triple gauge. Whenever it rains, or I wash my car the first pod fills with water...It's not instantainous, but slowly drips in. I've tried pulling off the door trim piece and siliconing it back on with no success. Not sure if it's leaking form the window or the windshield or the sunroof. sad.gif ....I never noticed it leaking when I had he stock pillar in there, but then again it may have been leaking onto the floor or out to the ground. Any ideas as to where to look or maybe how to test to see where it's leaking from......I don't appreciate getting in the car and taking off only to have a lap full of water dump on me. lol mad.gif
thanks, |
From what I remember there is a plastic drain hose that runs down through that pillar (unless it is the line for sending winshield washer fluid to the rear wiper), it may have gotten punctured when you installed the pillar or something, I'd check it out at least.

i know that my car leaks from the window. but only if it is raining really hard or i go to the carwash. at the carwash i can see it come in. havent really tried to do anything about it though. good luck with it man.

water leaks in from the window when i go to the car wash
rubber that makes contact with the window looks somewhat deformed, but my dealer told me it's supposed to look like that ... |
Does your dealer think it's also normal when you're ride is filled with water?
it's normal right smile.gif |
All/most cars with sunroofs have a hose that drains the inside lip of the sunroof. It usually gets clogged with dirt and doesn't drain to the bottom of the car or gets disconnected from the metal frame at the top. So water drains down the inside of the pillar instead of through the drain hose.
Had a friend with a Maxima that had standing water in his passenger side floorboard every time it rained. |
^^^ Agreed with JonGTR. I've seen the drain hose get clogged up and it will over flow and pour into the A-Pillar. if you can locate the hole entry try pouring water into it and if it starts to overflow the it's probably clogged. either use an air gun or some other method of cleaning it out.
Before you clean anything out, it might be a good idea to take the plastic A-Pillar cover off and take your car to a pressure washer or car wash. and look for wherever the water is entering in from first. cause if it is a clogged drain hose, then you'll know for sure you fixed the issue. |
if it is the tube.. the thing to check is the end where it drains out of the car. Chances are, if it like every other car out there, the tube ends SHORT and just drains into the plastic rocker cover. Best thing you can do, after you unclog the tube, is to extend it so it sticks out from under the car about half an inch or so. Makes it easier to clean out and keeps built up dirt from keeping the water on the bottom of the car.
My old Lancia had a full length fabric sunroof. Lancia used a METAL tube from the sunroof to the sills. Every time the car got rained on, my floor got wet.. I eventually tracked it down to a rusted out drain tube... so this is not a new problem. Just remember, standing water in a car almost always equals rust |
Thanks guys. That was some great info. I'll check the drain tube and I'm hoping, 100%, that this is the problem. Sounds like a fairly easy fix.
