Strange Rattle/buzz
see if you can find it in the parts listing in the stickied setcion of the DIY forum. the exhaust one is right under the #1 scanned file under rd2.
a picture of it would help a bunch if you have a camera.
as for whether or not that was the cause of the problem, has the rattling stopped? my guess would be the heat sheild above the second cat. did the sound seem to be right underneath you?

yeah, it did. I looked at the parts listings, but I couldn't find one that looked like mine. The rattling has stopped, but I didn't want it to have been an important piece that fell off.
I wish I had a digital camera.
it looks like a barrel cut in half longways, and it has a bunch of holes in it.
If it is the heat shield, do I need a new one? Should I be worried?

not really needed, hyundai puts it on there to clean up the look of the engine more then disipate heat. In my book, it's as valuable as the hyundai emblem (maybe not). I'll keep it on there until i get a header/turbo. You can probly bend to stop it rattling it as it's just thin aluminum.

if your hatch is vibrating, try adjusting the rubber screws on the hatch. you can unscrew them and make it tighter. If that dosn't work, try finding out which part of your plastic is loose by pulling gently. If it's not just a screw, you may need to go to the dealer and special order the plastic retainers behind the panels. like a few bucks each.

Is there one on the Transmission? If so I'll bet that that is the one you lost. As you mentioned that there was only noise/rattling, when you were in gear, not when you just "blipped" the gas.
Jack up your car and take a look. It'll take about 15mins and you'll know for sure what part your missing.
