they all look ok except the one plug closest to the battery. it has a lot of orange/rust looking stuff on it. what is it?




i think that it could be from the pcv valve cause it is the plug closest to it

I put on prd wires with champion platnium plugs. i cant believe the difference. i did not ecpect it to feel any different but it felt smoother through the low rpm's and at idle.

Seeing as the rust is not on the electrode side, it's more than likely only moisture accumulation that was caused by the spark plug boot not sealing properly. Nothing bad, since you've replaced plugs and wires. Only problem is that you shouldn't have used champion platinum plugs. I know, autozone probably pitched a good sale about how it'll improve performance and economy and all, but the sad fact is that they'll foul up or cause damage to your coil pack. (It's complicated to explain, but it's got something to do with the fact that the coil is a transformer, and using the wrong plugs changes the reflected impedance to the primary side) Use the proper plugs the manufacturer calls for, and you'll never go wrong.

The only reason you've noticed any difference in idle is that the moisture was causing the arc to travel straight to the head around the plug, instead of traveling through the spark plug.

yeah man check your spark plug boot. there should be a rubber seal on the boot. some water probably got in there after the last change. what i would do is take a big shop vac and vac the hell out of that tube. then either clean the hell off the spark plug, or buy a new one. either way you have to regrease it with anti-sieze. you can buy anti-sieze from advance auto or autozone at the counter, the packs look like condoms hahaha. then lube up the bottom. it should keep rust out and leave the plug easy to take out next time you need to.

This is off-topc but: The only spark plugs you should be using are NGK and Denso. Neve ruse the domestic kind.

 

Dude, that looks like the spark plug chamber was filled up with water for a long time.
