Ok so its been doin this awhile...Ill go to fill up the gas tank and the lever will click on the pump like my tank is full. I did some searching and there were a few choices for the problem...One is somethin about a sensor dealin with fumes and makes the pump think im full. another was something about a buble or somethin possibly in the tank that is bouncing the gas back up the nozel to make it think my tank is full...I forget what the others were to be honest haha i wrote them down but cant find it ill look tomorrow...The only way i can fill up is if i barely pull the lever and i mean BARELY! takes me forever to get half a tank in my car...

Anyone else have problems like this? If so whats the solution and cost?

Your evap system is screwed. Usually this comes from "topping off" the gas tank, you know, packing the gas in to get to the next whole dollar or such. This causes the tank to overfill, sending gas down the vent line and into your charcoal canister. The vent line gets plugged up and the gas tank can't "breathe", which means the back pressure will prevent gas from going into the tank when you try to fill up. You will, at the least, need a charcoal canister and vent valve, possibly even a new vent hose.

"Topping off" the tank is not worth the expense of having to replace the components it damages. Eventually if you let it go without getting it fixed, you will not be able to put gas in your car at all.

Great so how much do you think??

The effects still remain, and the cause is still the same. Charcoal canister and vent valve... We do these in the shop maybe once every two weeks or so...

^^nice...any idea on cost?

I'll have to look it up when I get to work in the morning, I don't remember off the top of my head. I want to say the charcoal canister is like $120 or $130... I don't remember any of the other prices. I'll get back to you in the morning on it though.

just out of curiosity, do you always go to the same station for gas?

Years ago, when I was in college, I pumped gas for spending money (no self serve in NJ) and the vapor return line on the pumps would get clogged with gas from my fellow employees overpumping tanks.

If your nozzle has a heavy duty plastic/rubber sheath that goes over the metal part of the end that goes into your tank, it has a similar system. It is designed to suck the fumes from the tank OUT of the car and into the tanks underground so that they can settle and avoid polluting the enviroment. Try pumping with the sheath pulled back by hand. If that cures the problem, it is the station, not your car.
