For the past two weeks, my car has been throwing a P0453 CEL, which is "Fuel Pressor Sensor Range High" or something of that nature. Haven't been able to worry about it as I've had Regional and State Tennis matches, so I've just started looking into it today.

Webtech, as usual, oversimplifies things. Check the lines running to the sensor, check the wiring from the sensor to the ECU, if thats not it, replace it.

However, getting under the car I realize how much of a pain in the ass it is. The Fuel Pressure Sensor sits between the spare tire well and gas tank, in the most god awful place to put it, with suspension parts in the way.

I started going through the Webtech advice as usual. With normal lines of this nature, when the car is on, you can feel the lines working through vaccuum off the engine. As I couldn't feel anything, I was going to attempt to take off the lines today, run some PB blaster through them, then blow them out if they didn't have any air leaks.

However, the gas tank has about a one foot indentation in it to where these lines run to, right above the floorboard. Hard to reach. The wiring from the sensor runs into this place as well. I don't see any way of getting the lines off and finding out where the sensor goes without dropping the gas tank, which is going to be a major pain in my ass. So I come here to make sure I'm not overlooking something stupid.

Has anyone had this code before? Search doesn't show much.
Does anyone know where the wiring for that sensor runs after it goes above the tank? I can't see it on the other side.
Any advice to getting the lines off? I'm tempted to just rip them off at the moment as my patience is wearing thin. Trying to remove line clamps with pliers and not being able to see what your doing at all doesn't seem quite that easy.

I despise emission systems.

i would make sure to check the harness with a dvom and make sure all grounds are good, and that the ecu is providing the 5V's to the sensor. make sure all readings are normal. i would say that "more" than likely it's going to be the sensor seeing as how the code says the range is high could mean that the circuit minus the sensor is working properly, but you never know till you check everything.

Did you lift up the bottom portion of the rear seat? I believe there is an access panel there to get to the top of the tank where the fuel lines, etc. connect. At least there is on my wife's Elantra. I would assume the Tib uses a similar setup although I've never done it on mine.

i found a pretty cool website that may help give you a better description of what that sensor does. This should help you in your diagnosis.

Apparently I have been owned by a mouse. I popped the fuel pump cover to find pink insulation stuffed in there and the wires for that fuel tank pressure sensor chewed on and frayed. I hate rodents. owned.gif

lmao.gif

Went over to my parts car, and I'm still having problems getting the wiring to feed back through. From the bottom, you can't see what your doing, and from the top, you can't see what your doing. I can't see how I can stuff the wiring back through from one side of the floorboard to the other, let alone the wiring clip thing. I'll figure out something though, its more progress than I had before.

At least now you "know" what the problem is. congrats. fing02.gif

You gonna have mouse fondue tonight? don't get owned.gif by the mouse. you've been providing the mouse a home, you own him.

All sorts of vagrants have apparently been getting in my garage lately. I went downstairs this morning and there was a cat down there. Hopefully he pooned the mouse for me.

I also have a bat that lives in my garage. lmao.gif He eats all the moths and mosquitos that would annoy me while I work on my car, and since he hasn't crapped on my car, hes a real pal.

wow! haha.gif

When i was in Colorado i had a rabit living in my garage. Since it was during a cold season my wife and i assumed that it was there to avoid the cold. It chewed up my B1S2 O2 Sensor!!! We finally found the bastard hiding under my shop rags. We tried scooting it out of the garage with a broom, and when we got him outside, it ran right back in and climbed into the engine bay (maybe to stay warm). after messing around with the rabbit we finally got him out.
