"1997 1998 Tiburon 1.8L with automatic & no ABS , no antilock brakes"

i have a 2.0 manual...they're different aren't they...? damnit...

zhiryst Apr 3, 2007 10:00 AM

the lengths of the manual and auto axles are not the same. I remember way back when Shadohh did his auto to manual swap, he found that they're a couple of MM's off. It might work, but you might kill your CV joints significantly faster.

I believe that the CV's will have different splines for Automatic and Manuals

majik Apr 3, 2007 10:26 AM

I used the existing axles from my automatic when I swapped it to a manual. 2.0 to 2.0 though.

not sure about the 1.8 tranny

HyundaiKitCoupe Apr 3, 2007 10:37 AM

auto ones are shorter than manual ones. i know from the swap wink1.gif so no they are not the same.

hamhead Apr 3, 2007 02:39 PM

Some people swap them and some people don't when they do tranny swaps... so I'd assume you can force them to work with a little bit of effort... maybe.

badshark Apr 3, 2007 03:39 PM

i think my cv joint are going bad how much do they normally cost

zoned019 Apr 3, 2007 06:29 PM

^^ wtf does that have to do with anything?? lmao.gif

im so pissed...i haven't driven my car in like a month.....

okay, i've been looking on lots of sites, and most of the sites that sell these axles say that the axles fit regardless of AT/MT...

some people said they work, some people said they don't....what's the deal? i either need to order the right one today, or go give this one to the mechanic so he can start fixing it now..

i also called the place i got it from and they said they dont even have any axles listed under manual trans...only autos.

hasnt anyone ever had to replace an axle before? what did you do?

hamhead Apr 3, 2007 10:39 PM

Well, from what I know from MajikTib's experience, the mount points for the tranny are different by a little bit, which usually means the axle length will be off. He, however, reused his stock auto axles, with no problems I think.

As long as the 1.8L and 2.0L auto transmissions are the same size and such, it should work. Thats the question I guess. I would think they are the same... but I have no real world experience with it.

lol dude i sent you the link before, you have to get a manual trans (cv shaft)
other wise use two auto cv shafts L/H & R/H

not one of each, why dont you just slap that sucker on and try anyway, it an't going to do too much + it an't hard to take off
by rights its either going to fit or not, if it does great, if it dosn't..... it sucks to be you.. lmao.gif

good luck smile.gif
