K, I'm not a total idiot when it comes to wiring up a car, but this is new stuff to me.

I need to take a 12v source, and lower it down to 5v for a MAP sensor power wire.
Can someone hold my hand by giving me step by step instructions and where to get the parts?

I know there are voltage regulators, like LM309 - 5-Volt Regulator. It's semiconductor with only 3 wires (+in, ground, 5V out).

Input voltage can be up to 35 Volts.
It gives you 5V on the output up to 1000 mA.

i was jsut about to ask about this jon. i was going to go check out radioshack or something like that and see what was available.

That's what I'd do..just go to radio shack and tell them what you gotta do, there is such a thing that exists..

yup use the voltage regulator it'S much better the na resitor,
but, i was under the impression that the prs2 had a 5 volt output

( pin 17 black/brown wire)

Yea but it was easier to use existing wires so i didn't have to run anything outside. Then just tap all the wires near the stock ECU.

Ericy321 Sep 12, 2006 04:18 PM

hmm ill probably just use that wire then. didnt even think of it

Denisst99 Sep 12, 2006 06:19 PM

why not use the OEM 5 volts feed line?
i think it powers the tps, maf cam, knock, coolant sensors
check the OEM wiring, i'm sure it would be actually easy to use the existing wiring

Ericy321 Sep 12, 2006 06:51 PM

hmm didnt know that either. i guess ill check one of those out first

I already thought about tapping the acceleration sensor on the tower, but the knock sensor needs this and I didn't want to divide the power from it. I also wanted this to be a clean install, which is why I was gonna pull everything from the MAF wires. Nothing would would be tapped, and no new wires/looms would be run through the bay.

I guess I'll just use the PRS 5v and pull another wire.
Or maybe I can put the MAP sensor in the car next to the PRS and just tap the boost gauge vacuum line since it's running under the dash. cool.gif
