I have been doing a fair amount of research about this and was wondering if I could get some opinions...

Here's the story... The last couple of days I have noticed my exhaust is getting noisy. So today I had a look under the arse end of my car and noticed that the muffler has broken away from the tail-pipe. So here I am with a dilemma. Do I fix it and live with the still noisy MBRP system that I am currently running or do I replace the muffler with another aftermarket system. For those of you who have seen my car know that it is fairly noisy. Deep but noisy. It is a straight through design glass pack with a 4" tip. At the front end of the car I have a race headder made for the Hyundai Motorsports 2.0L Tiburon race car.
There is video of me floating around doing a little tray sliding at last years Hyundai Sunday if you wold like to hear wht it sounds like.

What I would like is to go with something that will give me a deep throaty rumble that lasts through most of the rpms. The MBRP one I have now idles and low revs nice and deep. But once the rpms come up it gets noisy.

I have been doing some research using the search on this site and have found a consensus that the Magnaflow muffler gives one of the nicest sounds. I think the 50 series stands out in my mind as one of the most popular.

Here are a couple of pics of what it looks like now.

Keep in mind I am into Solo 2 racing, so I don't want to lose a lot of power by changing mufflers. I know I can't have my cake and eat it too. I just want a good sounding can that isn't going to slow me down. wink1.gif

So I went to the muffler shop at lunch today and made my decision. I went with a Magnaflow oval stainless straight through muffler with a 3" rolled tip. It sounds good, fits nice, and is less than half the noise of the MBRP muffler it replaced. It has the DEEP tone that I was looking forward to.

I'll take a few pics later. fing02.gif

Seriously man, I wish you'd post over here more. WOW.

I'm here more than you think man... I read a lot of the posts here but not always do I reply. Heck... I am the same way over on HP.com and I am a moderator there.

I usually don't say anything unless I can contribute in a positive way to a thread.

Look at it this way... Been a member there for almost 5 years and have just brok the 3000 post mark. lmao.gif

I've got the MBRP as well, I don't like the sound.

Did this work for you?

How much did it cost?

It worked great. I also find that the new muffler has smoothed out the exhaust note as I gear down. No more of the "popping" that I used to hear.

There isn't much of the MBRP system left on my car...

From front to back:
Hyundai Motorsports 4-2-1 race headder
High flow catalytic converter (unknown brand)
2.25" MBRP mid pipe
2.25" Resonator (straight through/glass pack) unknown brand
2.25" MBRP rear section
Then the Magnaflow muffler and tip that I just got today.

The muffler and tip cost me about $325 CDN and about an hour of my time.

After the install I found that the rear section didn't touch the rear suspension quite as easily as before. Also the tip is much more subtle. Going from a 4" tip to a 3" I hope will attract a litle less unwanted attention.

The sound is also MUCH nicer than before. The muffler is still straigh through like the MBRP one, but is far FAR less buzzy like before. Maybe it is because I am turning 30 in a couple weeks... Maybe it is because I am starting to appreciate my hearing. Doesn't matter. I like it now and that is all that matters. cool.gif

Thanks for the words of encouragement about the car. It has ben a long build up. I like to do one thing at a time and appreciate each modification for what it does for the car individually. Seems like any time something needs replacing, I replace the OEM part with something better.

LOL lmao.gif LOL I didn't realise how nice my stereo sounds now that I can hear it!!! wink1.gif
