motor swap or motor rebuild???

so guys i was talking to a mechanic whos been building cars for 20 yrs, he told me i could do choose from one or two things

first: port and polish my head, 2 gaskets for high compression, 850cc injectors, and a computer tune,

second: buy a 2.4 sante fe motor and do the same and drop it in

im curious bout the sante fe motor cuz on the head it says 2.0/2.4 does that mean it will bolt onto a 2.0 block?

idk what i should do cuz my tib has 190xxx miles and im gona rebuild it what do you guys think?

and im getting either of these done for around 1000

umm WTF?!

850cc injectors, for what?

2.4L santa fe motor wont 'drop in' either..

is your car turbocharged?

how do you plan on tuning the computer? LOL

it will cost well over 1000$ to rebuild your motor, buy injectors and have it swapped in.

...lol... Its TT all over again...... That to me sounds like some 16 year old high school kids build plan. No offense. That doent sound like a techs idea with 20 years xp.

Also two gaskets make high compression.... Total fail.... Thats gonna make less compression, and overall a rotten idea.

FIND A REAl ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC!!

Nothing wrong with a port and polish.

2 gaskets, as mentioned, is not a good idea and actually lowers compression instead of raising it.

850cc injectors...I don't even know what power level they would be appropriate for, maybe 800-900hp? It doesn't sound like that's the kind of build you're looking to undertake.

It's going to take more than a computer tune...

The 2.4l Sigma engine isn't all bad, but there are fewer parts available and a swap is more involved than just bolting it in.

The head is possibly interchangeable between the 2.4l Sigma and 2.0l Sigma engines, but probably not with the 2.0l Beta.

ohhhhh well maybe i understood him wrong he speaks spanish and i barely understand. loll well ima just let him do the work and come back with final results, ive seen cars he builds hes got a toyota starlet 13b drag car, made a civic n/a running 8 sec 1/8th miles.

what would you guys recommend doing?

turbosocks 02-21-2011 04:12 PM

wow, just stop.. now..

your just going to 'let him do the work' without even knowing what the hell he is going to do?

i recommend staying away from that shop, forever..

why are you wanting to swap your motor or build it anyway? for power? for turbo? because its old and worn out (bad compression, burns oil, etc.) ?

Turboron_99 02-21-2011 04:13 PM

Recomend. You drive it as is till it dies. Unless your going FI.

my98tiburon 02-21-2011 04:44 PM

yea its old and worn but you guys will see the progress soon enough

Turboron_99 02-21-2011 05:41 PM

Good Luck, Seems like you be needing it!!!

:nuts2:

lol first off big mistake and no the 2.4 sante fe wont drop in i dont even think the mounts are the same so good luck with that plus why would you do that instead rebuild and FI? alot quicker and more than likely more reliable the mechanic obviously does not know what hes talking about. one more thing. 8sec 1/8th civic isnt anything amazing yes good but not amazing( could be accomplished with a simple motor what and i/h/e such as k20/k24/gsr/mini gsr ). thats approx a 14sec 1/4 mile no he doesnt know what hes talking about but GOOD LUCK. and then shaving the heads then adding an extra gasket hmm.. might wanna consult some ASE or real mechanics

anyway best of luck to you my friend
