Hey Random, specs on that 2G Beta intake cam?

I know I've seen that post either here or on FXT, but I cannot find the damn thing sad.gif

Can you repost the specs for that intake cam? I'm hoping to get a chance at installing it tonight (just for a day or two) but I want to know the specs again wink.gif

I also tenatively have a dyno session scheduled for Friday to get the AFC tuned right. Dunno if that's going to happen though, because I gotta get out of work.

Hey Random, what are the chances of getting that cam installed by a dealership? I know each one is different but do you think they would and still warranty your motor? It is still a factory piece.
Thanx

Julez 09-24-2001 02:34 PM

The 1.8 cam is still under warranty too isn't it? If thats the case I wouldn't see much of a reason why it wouldn't be then, but I could be wrong.

By the way which cam would be better for starting of with an N/A setup, and then maybe later either a NOS or turbo setp?

Here are the cam specs. Those of you Tiburon owners with 1.8L Elantra cams are going cry. The new intake cam is even better!

OLD Elantra 1.8L
Intake 44.449 mm ( 1.7499 in )
Exhaust 45.049 mm ( 1.7736 in )

Tiburon
Cam height (Intake [1.8L]) 44.449 mm ( 1.7499 in )
Cam height (Intake [2.0L]) 44.049 mm ( 1.7342 in )
Exhaust 45.049 mm ( 1.7736 in )

2001 Elantra Motor
Intake : 44.820 mm (1.7646 in.)
Exhaust : 44.720 mm (1.7606 in.)

So the stock Exhaust cam from a 2.0L and the intake cam from a new 2001 Elantra is the way to go. The new cam offers .8mm more lift and 4 degrees more duration than the stock cam. And .4mm more lift and 2 degrees more duration than the old 1.8L Elantra cam.

If you have a 2001 Elantra, you might want to switch out your EXHAUST cam with the unit from the original beta (elantra or tiburon, 1.8 or 2.0)

Some dealers are cool and warranty the cam as it is an original Hyundai part. Some dont. It depends on how cool your dealership is.

I thought you couldn't use the new cam in the tiburon. Do to some changes made inside the head. Just wondering.

Random 09-24-2001 03:58 PM

The valve system changed in the 2001 elantra to a shim over bucket design rather than the Hydraulic Lash adjusters.

However, the cams are the same generic profile/design.

Red has one of the new 2001 Elantra intake cams in his engine now, and will be doing a dyno within a week. (hopefully).

He also had the 1.8L Elantra cam, and will be able to give us some "seat o the pants" driving impressions between the two.

Definitely interested to see the results of this one!!! *drool*
Does this cam not have to be adjusted periodically due to the fact that it is shimmed? Random you probably have some experience with this as you drove or drive a sport bike or motorcycle period. Motorcycle engines run about 20 to 30,000km before they need to have the valves adjusted. Is this not a similar concept?

Are the cams made out of the same material? If they are not and they are run in a different set up will they not wear out and put metal filings into the motor?

Yes, the new valve train has to be adjusted every 30,000 miles. That part sucks, but they are more durable and can rev higher than HLA equipped engines.

The cams are similar in materials, so that is not a problem.

BTW...I edited your original post to include your second post. Please do that yourself in the future.
