basically I want my car to sound good.

Really, I want the sound of a lotus, or ferrari.

what should I do? I've been looking around at http://www.aero-turbine.com hmm.. don't know if i can justify $200 but if it gets me the sound I want by just a muffler I'd be happy to spend that much for that sound.

you know i was listening to that but it i thought it sounded distorted, it seemed like the only true sound was the last one accelerating driveby where you could hear engine and not that buzz. I guess I thought maybe it was just me because the speakers I have are so horrible they are staticy and suck.
But besides aero-BS what do you guys suggest? I sorta liked the way malik's sounded (if he would put a cat on there)

LMAO. If you want your car to sound like a ferrari or lotus then you should buy one because you will never be able to achieve the sound of ferrari on a 4 cyl beta...

I think this muffles is just another rip off that they made. Do yourself a favor and don't waste money...

What's your current exhaust setup?

lol, I just want something similar because it's a nice sound. And obviously if I could afford a lotus I wouldn't have a tib.
Anyway.
Right now I have 4-2-1 headers + MBRP + hi-flow cat (in a box in my room)

Do the Lotus Elise & Exige still use the 1.8L Toyota engine? Maybe you could just get a Celica front-cut & somehow make it all fit???

If you mean that you want your engine to have a higher-pitched whine like in racecars, like OP said, you'll never achieve that with the Tib's low-revving Beta engine...

You could drop something like the 2.0L MIVEC engine from the Mitsubishi FTO into your Tib. I've seen some folks (in the UK & in Thailand) that have done it, with good results. That'll give you a nice sound & an engine that, even stock, will put out 200hp at around 7500rpms.

I'm not sure if the Honda S2000 engines (2.0L & 2.2L) fit in the Tib's engine-bay but they make 240hp at around 8000rpms, depending on spec.

ok, it is impossible to get the Ferrari sound in a non-Ferrari, simply because of how different their engines are. Not only are they flatplane cranks, but they also have a sequential firing order. (IE. Cylinder1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... none of that skipping around the cylinders to make for a smooth power delivery.

Ferrari did produce a 4 cylinder car. It was not called a ferrari or even the Dino (that had a 6) but the ASA. To be kind, automotive journalists of the day said it had an exhaust note of a "Flatulant cow in a bucket" Needless to say, while other ferrari engines are rather pleasing to the ear, the 4 was not.

Okay guys, I was simply using it as an example off what I thought sounded nice and I am going to attempt to replicate or get close to if at all possible, geez, get off my nuts with your engine swaps and history reports drillsergeant.gif nana.gif
Basically you're saying the only tone you can get is a deep buzz? I hate it. I want a high whine as mentioned (good way to put it). I hate the low deep note. Again, I thought Malik's car sounded pretty nice, how to achieve that?
What I'm trying to say is, while I know that the sound cannot be copied, there are definitely ways to achieve something similar(?), or I guess just anything which is NOT the deep bumble bee noise, and that's what I'm interested in.

Is it true that Lotus cars had a "tuned exhaust" system which consisted of basically only pipe, and the note of the exhaust was adjusted by cutting or adding length to the pipe? I think that's really interesting if it's at all true ..

OBX exhaust has been known to create a fairly high-pitched tone.

First I'd get rid of the OBX headers or get them Jet Hot coated. Getting a cat is a good idea. Then I'd get a huge glasspack. This combo should sound pretty good, but will not sound like a ferrari... If you still have buzzing problems, replace can muffler with a magnaflow one or borla.
