it was an option for the rds-... it was rare.

i believe mad john had one and was looking for parts for it. (reliable?)

probably not worth the effort to adapt another car's system to our tibs-... but if you do, let us know how it works! pro's con's etc!

Just curious, why do you want electric power steering?

Electric p/s has less parasitic loss than belt driven systems.

Cmoon, the gains would have to be very marginal compared to the amount of work required...

I'd be interested in seeing the results. Folks go to great extents to get every inch of power out of their cars, especially the NA crowd. Light weight pullies, light rims, removal of AC. To be honest, I think this would be a very smart way to retain the luxury of power steering and reducing a large amount of drag on the engine. And especially if hyundai actually made oem parts?! I say go for it and please share what you find. May be my summer mod project on the Tib this year!

I agree, this could be very cool, even for only a slight performance gain. Any idea as to weight comparison between the electric and belt driven setups?

HMA has a pretty decent writeup on the OEM unit

Got bored and made a png of the document:

The OEM's are doing it for fuel economy. The new Nissan Quest even has electric brakes. I know because it's a PITA to bleed them.
