Exhaust Gas Relief Valve, I'm not familiar with Hyundai's (I thought we just had EVAP cannisters) rather Chevy's... rolleyes.gif

They stick, sometimes it's the pintle sometimes it's the valve. Sometimes the OBDII code will say a faulty EGR and all it is is a faulty circuit between the EGR and the TPS, or VCM (in Hyundai's case the ECU), or like my car just recently it's just the pintle position circuit that's faulty. (causes major problems due to the VCM's natural habit to go into limp-in mode).

EGR could mean Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve in which case it is just a connection from the headers to the intake with a valve that controls the flow. This is used to raise the air temperature of the intake air and raise the pressure to help with efficiency and gas mileage. Usually this valve works opposite from the throttle (closing at full throttle so you get cooler more dense air for power, and opening at cruising speeds to give you better gas mileage). I'm still new to hyundai's and havent spent much time under the hood of one so i'm not sure which EGR we have. If we have evap canisters then the EGR probably stands for exhaust gas recirculation.

i'm having some serious problems with my purge solenoid. is this what you guys are talking about?

and Exhaust Gas Recirculation could be those two tubes next to the battery tray, one for intake and the other for purge, no?
