Cruise control stopped working!

I have an 01 tib. It just randomly stopped working. I haven't touched or changed anything on the car in months. The button on the dash (under the rear defrost/wiper button) doesn't light up green any more when it's pushed. And it doesn't light up the symbol on the gauges anymore either. The button to activate it on the right side stick doesn't do anything.

Where should I check first? Is the fuse for cruise control under the steering wheel or in the engine bay? Is it a dedicated fuse or is it tied to other systems too? Thanks!

Check ur driver side brake light. If it doesn't light up when you apply the brakes, your cruise won't work.

Edit: Have you changed any of your brake bulbs to LED? The lower voltage makes the circuit think the bulb is out too.

Oh weird, maybe that's why someone said my drivers brake light was working intermittently the other day. Not totally broken though. The bulbs are original incandescent...and the bulb was still good. So how do I fix this? Is it just a bad bulb?

WTF!? Seriously? Why? Are they wired in series? lol :Unsure2:

Could be something simple like old bulb or fuse, little bit of corrosion in the socket or something to that effect. I highly doubt that there would be something more complex like a short or anything.

And pas1216, i can only imagine it was engineered as a safety precaution.

So how do you fix the cruise controll issue with LED?

This has been covered in depth before, very well, by member DTN. I used the site search (the gear next to the magnification glass at the top-right of your screen) and typed in

cruise control LEDs

and BAM it found exactly what you need.

You guys are life savers. Was just a stupid burnt out drivers side bulb. Can't believe Hyundai wired the cruise control in line with the brake lights. Seems like a silly mistake...

not really its actually pretty damn simple

the cruise needs to disengage when you step on the brakes....why not just add it to that circuit?

I guess that's why I don't get it though. I wasn't touching the brakes (so how does a burnt out bulb make the system think that the brake pedal is being touched?). And why just the drivers side? What about the passenger side brake bulb? Just confusing to me...
