Cooling system help
 

Yesterday I was stuck in stop & go traffic. I wasnt running my a/c and had my windows down. It was a hot day, and as I was sitting there in traffic I saw my temp gauge keep going up. It got up into the red at one point. I heard the fans kick on in the engine and the gauge still was pretty high near the red. As traffic started going, the gauge fell back to the middle where it usually is.

Is this something to be concerned about? I always thought a proper cooling system would keep your engine from getting really hot and causing the gauge to go up into the red like that, even if you're not moving.

Change your thermostat. Had the same thing start happening recently. Replaced it yesterday and car has been running great since.


Btw, next time turn on the heater and put the blower on the feet setting. This will keep your temps from rising.

Start the car and once it gets warm make sure one of the fans comes on. Then turn on the A/C and make sure the second fan comes on. If both are OK, replace the thermostat.

Forgot to mention that... good catch lol.

As Bomello mentioned, next time, turn the heater on full blast when you see it go up even the slightest. The last thing you want is a blown headgasket. So keep the temps down!

Finally got around to changing out my thermostat this weekend. The old ones spring was busted in 2 spots. Put the new one in, and everything works perfectly now! No more over heating. smile.gif

i am having the same problemwith mine on highway as well, after just changing my burnt rad fan. Likeyoumeanit has a post to change the thermostat to a MR.Gasket 4363 which is for Ford & GM v-8, but he claims it fits & performs well at lower temps.Is this what you put in or just an oem?

i suggest doing a heavy duty rad flush at 3 yrs max. take out the thermo and do it in the summer, this way you can monitor any temp gauge changes. if it still shows some temp repeat the flush.
