i drive a 1998 hyundai tiburon... i replaced the spark plugs and wires with ngk's at 60,000 thousand. 5 months ago the car was in an accident hit and run, when someone hit me in the font....i had it fixed at a shop...i have been driving it around to school up till now and i been trying to figure out why my steering wheel shakes at idle, i have 83,000 now and it feels slower and has less power then before.. i do have a cell on.. i think its the o2 sensors which im replacing this weekend when i get $$....i have no idea what it can be any help will be great.

thank you

Go to Autozone and get the code read first. Then come back and post up what the number of the code. That would be the most helpful.

The ECM will set a code and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will turn on if the long-term fuel trim value goes 10% to 15% rich [for P1127] or lean [for P1128] for 30 seconds during two driving cycles when the following conditions are met:
  1. [*]

You should have other codes set.

you sure it's 1228 and not 1128 ????

because 1228 is a manufacturer code and Hyundai doesn't use that code ...

Its definitally the o2 sensor. My car was doing the same thing and it was eating gas like a hummer cause the bad o2 sensor made it run extremely rich.

DTM post above says p1128 is lean.. so if your ECU thinks the car is leanthen i can see it running rich to compensate for running lean... change the O2 sensor still.
