I know this has probably been discussed before, but the search function freezes my computer 95% of the time. I’m going to be doing a tune up once warm weather hits here, and I’d like to get some opinions. I would like a CAI but I can’t afford the AEM one, how do the Ones on Ebay stack up? If I get a CAI I will have to get the bypass valve because I live where there is a ton of rain and snow, will the valve really insure that I won’t be sucking water into the engine?
If the bypass valve isn’t going to work 100% would I be better of going with a WAI or just removing the resonator and putting a K&N in the air box? I am having a hard time finding any decent WAI/RAI any suggestions? On one of my old cars I had a Ractive Heat Shield, I can’t remember if it was any good or not any thoughts on them? If anyone has any thoughts please feel free to chime in. Again sorry about posting something that has more than likely been discussed before.

Which one did you get off Ebay? There are a few different ones I've been looking at.

I had the BOMZ CAI (WAI) and it made me some low end torque, i couldnt get rubber in second after i installed but i felt a kick in the upper RPMs and saw some MPG benefits.

I only bought that one because i wanted something before i went turbo so i didnt want to spend that much on an AEM CAI

MK3; That is one of the ones I was looking at. Is the 2 piece style any different from the 1 piece type? Did you have any fitment issues with that one? Also does it put the filter behind the fog light?

alex; Did you have any CEL problems with the BOMZ?

I'm gonna make this real simple...
The AEM intake is the best you can get for our cars, hands down.
If you can't afford that one, get the AEM clone on ebay (here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-02-TIBUR...ayphotohosting) make sure to get one that looks like that.

Don't bother with anything else.

Zoned, so in your opnion don't bother with any but the AEM or AEM clone? You think Iwould be best off just leaving the air box on until I can get the AEM?

The thing I'm facing is that I need a new fliter, so I don't know if I should get an oem filter, a K&N drop in, or el chepo cai or wai until I can front the $200 or so for the AEM.

Naw no CEL, if you get one its cuz you did it wrong

If your going to get an AEM within the next year just get a replacement filter, then save for the AEM. Or get the AEM clone.

IF you have future plans and you just want to monkey around with something for cheap while you save for that then get an el cheapo.
