5w-50
A friend of mine wants to switch from 5w-30 Quaker Full syn. to 5w-50 Quaker performance full syn for the summer.
He has around 150 000KM on the engine. What do you guys think? He's experimenting and seeing how it turns out. I've never ran that so I'm not sure.

Well, I ran 20w50 for about 5000 miles in my old tib with no problems. It definately cut down the oil consumption. I wouldn't suggest 50 unless he has serious blowby or oil consumption problems which would ultimately lead to the destruction of the engine anyway. I wouln't suggest going any higher than 40 weight. Like 10w40 or something like that.
I don't see why 5w-50 whould be bad. It has wider temp range than 5w-30.
Also I know that some guys here use semisynth oil (10w-40) instead of synth (5w-40) cause their engines burn oil, with semisynth (or mineral) oil is burned less.
