the right oil for my 2001 4 cyl
I purchased a 5 qt container of 5x30 castrol, now I'm wondering if I should change it to 10 x30 Quaker state? for My 2001 4 cyl sonata 120 ,00 miles on it runs real good

I would switch it to 10w30. Where are you located at? Depending on what type of hot or cold weather your area gets, will also determine what weight oil you should be using too.

For your car Hyundai recommends 5W30 oil for temperatures 50F and below. If you will see temps above 50F before your next oil change (which is likely since spring is just around the corner) its probably better to go with the 10W30. For your engine the 10W30 is safe for a temperature range of -13F up to 104F.

5W-30 is recommended up to a maximum of 95 degrees F. So, you'll be fine running that.

I personally run 20-50 oil in my Tib now, all year round, also i live in washington and have never had lifter tick or anything EVER! I do allow my car like 5 minutes warm up no matter the temp, and it doesnt see any higher than like 2500 rpms till i see the temp gauge normal. Yet, i do beat my car when it gets driven, so I put that oil to work.

Is you car a 4 cyl and does it have turbo ,mine is a 4 and no turbo,oh are you useing a synthetic oil , Im useing regular oil if that makes a difference I change it every 3000 miles anyway. also what does the manual recomend for your car 10x40 max ? mine is 5x30 to 10x30 |
Yep, I have the 2l 4cyl. Yet mine does have a ton of work put into it, and doesnt get driven alot. Yet, also i am still using a high grade conventional oil. Also I am turboed, hints to the very heavy wieght, were a 5w30 oil would just break down from heat, and would not be able to do it job as OIL.
For you I would say 10w30 is a good summer oil weight, you should have no problem, Also I love Catrol GTX 10w30 like 15 dollars for 5 quartz at WallyWorld!!! GTX FTW!!! |
Castrol vs. Quaker State, don't worry about that both brands are fine.
You can run the 5w30 oil with no problems. I would recommend 10w30 for your next oil change. 5w30 starts out thinner than 10w30 but at operating temperature they're both the same viscosity. |
