2004 Sonata 2.4L Issue

Last March, a friend and I replaced the timing belts in my mom's 2004 Sonata. Last month, the lower belt shredded itself and took out the crankshaft position sensor in the process.

Tested compression after replacing the belts under warranty and cylinder 3 is a little low. Not low enough to be an issue. Now when we start the engine, it sounds like a friggin' diesel.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Bent valve? Bent something else? etc?

Anyone?

It's still under warranty? I would take it back to the dealership then.

i agree with floyd. But what makes it sound like a diesel? exhaust noise? engine noise?

Engine noise. Still under warranty, but don't want them giving us crap for doing the timing belt ourselves. Trying for a fix-it-yourself type of solution for the moment.

Im guessing there is no CELs? maybe the CKPS is on its last leg idk. could try replacing that, the usual thing to happen is if a CKPS is bad the car wont start...but in this case idk. Is the timing correct? Not to question your skill but as a chem major i deal with a lot of experimental/accidental error haha
