V6 in a 2000 Tiburon
 
A while back I saw a gen 1 with the older delta eninge from the Sonata that made 171hp...it was 2.7L so could we do the swap for the new delta as well? It uses the same 5sp tranny as well doesnt it? I know you can get the V6 with the 5 or 6sp...(I did a search, didn't find anything about this)

personally, i'd just stick with the 2.0L and spend the money that u would have spent with the engine swap on building up the 2.0L and slappin it with a turbo. I think the general concensus around here is that the 2L is a stonger block anyways, so it should be able to handle high output better than the delta. just my opinion :D

Considering the cost of the project and the carry-over problems of power-to-weight ratio and weight and brake bias offset, which would require adjusting the settings on the suspension or modifying the suspension so that it can be tuned to take advantage of the increased torque and Hp, it would be more sensible to go with the standard issue Beta, for the same amount of money spent for the swap to be effective, the beta can be strengthened and tuned to give performance over the Epsilon or Delta with still a weight and weight bias advantage, while retaining the standard suspension and brake tune.

I dont see a huge difference in the power to weight ratio...with the I4 my car is 2600lbs+ and the new V6 tib is 3000lbs+. I can see how new brakes and struts would help...but by just swapping a stock engine would be more reliable than a turbo, which I see everyone I know that has one is a nightmare...always in the shop, always something breaks...If the cost is comparable to putting in a turbo, then I would do the swap, I have more confidence in a stock Delta than an Alpine turbo POS.

Don't judge all turbos based of the ****ty reputation of Alpine.

Red, and myself are building up turbo motors, that will far eclipse Alpine, and with far better relability (hopefully! *grin*)

The point is that a 2600 Lbs car with a 300 Hp motor has a better power to weight ratio than a 3000 Lbs car with a 300 HP motor. That simple.

The beta can handle more power than the Delta or the Epsilon engine. There is also next to NO aftermarket parts availability for the Epsilon. The Delta is good to about 250 Wheel HP, then block/crank/main journal parts start to break. The Beta engine, with new pistions and rods, is good to 600 HP.

It is far cheaper, and easier to modify the Beta, than to try to fit an delta, or fit an Epsilon motor into your tibby.

How are you going to get that huge Epsilon engine to fit in the bay?
How are you going to mount it?
What tranny are you going to use (Epsilon only comes with automatics)
how are you going to fit the huge Epsilon auto tranny in the engine bay?
How are you going to mount the tranny?
Which drive axles will you use?

You've also replaced a 200 Lbs engine with a 350 Lb engine (not counting tranny weight). You've just seriously messed with your front/rear weight bias. You need to adjust the brakes and suspension accordingly. How are are you going to deal with that?

All of that crap and BS for 210 HP? Hell, get nitrous and do it for under $1000. Get a turbo and do it for under $6000. You'll never accomplish all of the above for the cost of a 100% reliable 300 Wheel HP turbo beta.
