rd with a v6?

has anyone done this and if its a hard swap?

dckeith18 03-19-2011 08:46 PM

I hear its real hard

turbosocks 03-19-2011 09:00 PM

not anyone that i know of has done it..

it would be a pain in the ass to swap it and just plain stupid to swap to the v6 anyway..

you would be swapping for what, 40hp?....

it would be cheaper to completely build your motor and push 400hp than it would to swap to a relatively new v6 and get it working properly..

if you were a good welder and fabricator, i guess it wouldn't be considered REAL HARD; but unless you have those skills you will be paying a TON just to get the motor sitting in the engine bay.

in my opinion the beta has more potential than the delta v6 motor.

Anything is possible, but you have to as if it's worth it to you. I'm at +1 for putting all the effort required into a turbocharger setup.

^^ That crx is awesome!, My buddy put a 2.2 ecotec in a civic hatch and turboed it last summer , With the gk v6 in a rd tib would be too much trouble for the final outcome .

Eco Boost.... Good swap there if you ask me.

Well since the beta comes in the GK I have to ask, do the 4 an 6 cylinder engines use the same mounting locations? If so then the RD being a beta, wouldnt the V6 mount in the same as the beta?

Stocker 03-20-2011 09:11 PM

I'm pretty sure they use four tires each, also, but . . . I seriously doubt the tuner gods would smile on you that brightly.

seems pretty reasonable:

beta II and delta have same mounting points; there are a few v6 swapped elantras floating around that prove this.

beta I and IIs have the same mounting points; you can put either into an accent using the same mounts, you can swap a beta II into an RD and so on.

therefore, a delta should fit into a beta I chassis. I suspect that most of the work would be coming from things like shifter cables and electronics, as the later tibs would be using smartra immobilisers. if i were to go down this route, i would try and swap in the delta 2.5 from an earlier gen sonata and nig rig it to the 6 speed from the tib. the sonata engine would be cheap as f*ck, and you hopefully wouldn't need to deal with silly immobilisers. idk if that would be as easy to do as it was to type it out, though :s

if you need a hand mapping out electrical let me know. I would modify the v-6 harness to fit the rd in this case.
