Default Trunk light

I want to wire up a couple of white led strips for my trunk and was wondering if there was a DIY somewhere or if someone could help me out with this. Each of the strips have a positive and negative wire. So how do I wire them to the bulb thats in the trunk so they light up when I open the trunk up? Do I have to rip out the light to get access to the wiring or is there a simpler way to do it?

I added a single surface mount LED in my trunk. I took out the OEM festoon bulb and soldered to the pos and neg terminals on the light. Then just glued it to the original light lens.
