File formats

If I put a bunch of files on a USB stick and plug it into the USB port in the GC, what file formats will it read? Strictly MP3 or will it see video files (MPEG, MP4) and play the audio?

I'm really not sure....... I think it only plays MP3 and limited to the first 5,000 files
