Common for the GC to eat some oil?

My car has 32,000 miles on it. Is it common for it to be low about a half quart every oil change or is there something wrong that I should take back to the dealer for warranty service? It's a 3.8 Track if it matters.

I haven't heard of any Genesis consuming oil. I had a 10+ year old Mustang that would eat a quart or so, but a newish Genesis shouldn't. Half a quart... it could not be draining fully or maybe you aren't putting enough in. Are you putting in a 5qt. jug from Wal-Mart or a 5+ (5.28qt) jug from AutoZone?

Do you check the dipstick before changing the oil? Is it staying consistent?

1/2 to even 1 quart per change is nothing to worry over, especially if you have an oil change interval in the 5-6k miles range. If you drive hard it could be more than that.

not too sure why anyone would consider a newer car burning oil to be "normal" or "nothing to worry about". My Accent would take 4 liters of oil, 5 - 6K miles later, I would drain out 4 liters of oil.

Mostly because it's nothing to worry about. Old cars, 1qt/3000 miles was perfectly acceptable and some owners' manuals would specify 1qt/1000 miles or even less with severe duty use (towing/racing/mountain driving etc). Less oil consumption is normal now, but a little is still nothing to sweat over.

I would agree with stocker if this was a ten year old car, but these new motors are built tight and the emissions controls are waaaaay more strict than 'she'll be right'

What do your spark plugs look like? Any external leaks?
