Today I spent some time with a beautiful Gen coupe 2.0T 210hp m/t aaaand I'm not impressed
The breaks are great as for stopping power , but you can't simply play with the pedal. I mean for city driving at first is a bit hard to get used to.
Clutch: Maybe it's just me ,cause I'm used to ceramic 6 puck, but I don't like how this thing shifts.
Seats quality: the car is used for about 6 months and there are some nasty marks on them. Just to compare, my tib is 97 and the seats are at much better condition.
As these things that I mention can be good for somebody you can't argue that the engine and tranny are BIG f*ck UP !!!
I drove it on the highway and after that a lot of city driving and I taught that may be it's just me, cause the car was slow. 0-60; 2nd gear pull and so on. My car was there ( no nitrous bottle ) and we decided to make some starts on the highway...
I'm with semi slicks and from standing start 0 to 1/4 mile I was almost 2 car length in front
rolling start from 2nd gear we were very close may be a nose lead for me...
I don't want to sound like I'm making my car look good. That's not the case. My point is that brand new sport coupe with 2.0T vs old 2.0 N/A car from the same manufacturer and the result is not very good for the new guy
I know that the Gen coupe is a lot bigger and heavier with a lot of new features , but I don't give a f*ck it's 2.0T RWD sport car... it should smash my old car.
I was very interested in buying a Gen coupe, cause as for now they made me very good offer. The price for 2.0t 210hp is almost 43 000$
the offer is - 13 000 = 30 000 $ final price.
As a result of today I don't want 2.0T anymore, may be 3.8 v6 , but 2.0 is out of my dreams
One thing is for sure gen coupe is a sexy looking car

Hey blitz! I think the Tiburons in general were very good cars and the quality is comparable and in some ways better than today's models.
I really agree even though they're two completely different cars. The Tiburon is more nimble and can be easily "flicked" around with sureness whereas the Genesis requires more planning and decision-making in order to execute its driving.
It's because all these new cars are so heavy. I highly doubt they'll ever return to 2,500lb cars of the 1980's and 1990's which is why I think in the future, performance will be more oriented towards the specifications of shorter and wider cars like the new z. At least this is what is occurring in the WRC right now.

The Newer 2.0T are in the 270+hp range I believe. Might feel a lot better than the 210hp you drove. I agree. I actually test drove the 3.8 and wasnt all that impressed. Then I went and test drove the Nissan 370Z the same day. Absolutely no comparison. The BASE model nissan was simply a higher quality car ALL around.
One reason why we ALL fell in love with the Tibs back in the day is they were SUPER affordable! They handled great, and for the money had great performance, and were styled very well. If Hyundai would have kept that approach, its short comings wouldnt even be an issue and you would happily be buying yourself a new Gen Coupe.
EDIT: Well, I have to possiblly dismiss my overall disapproval of the Gen Coupe. This thread made me do a little surfing and apparently, beyond the bump in power for both models, the 2013's are suppose to have more refined interiors and improved materials in the cabin(a major problem considering my RD1 has a higher quality interior than the first gen Gen Coupes.) Beyond the performance being sub-par on the pre-2013's, I must say I have to go neutral again on my opinions of the NEW 2013 Gen Coupes and will have to go check them out again in the near future.
**If it were me I would go test drive a 2013 and then see where you fall in your opinion of the car.

Being totally honest, the Tibs still lack against some other 90s Coupes, but it was much cheaper to buy. In one way, the F2 Evo Coupes in the Uk could be called a bigger dissapointment, the normal Tib was in just about the ballpark for a 2.0 performance back then, however there were specials from it's class rivials that had near 200 BHP. The Evo only had a 7bhp gain from 1.8 cams, Hyundai only wanted existing parts used, without any mods made, MSD had origionally got 200bhp NA from them.Back with the 2.0T Genesis, again 210 bhps in the ballpark for a mass produced 2.0T engine, even European spec Scoobys only had 220bhp from a 2.0T up until 5 or 6 years ago, now they've got closer to the JDM 280bhp figure, but use 2.5T to do it, so engines not lacking too much, however I think the Genesis (and argubly the old GK tib) are aimed at the sports tourer market, being driven leisurely at a good pace rather than being ragged round a track.

Mazda's big marketing push in Europe is that they have shaved 100kg from every model to improve performance and economy. In general however car weights realy increased over the last 10 years or so, and power from engines hasn't realy gone up with it, hence models now have bigger engines. In the Uk we have what some call the Golf GTI effect. Despite modern ones have 2.0T engines, and twice the power of the origional, all 6 incarnations have had a very similar performance to each other.

There is no 2013 Gen Coupe here in Bulgaria
Here is some info for it http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...0t-r-spec.html
As you can see with TC on the situation is
Even with TC off 1/4 mile 14.6...Integra Type R is 1.8 N/A car with similar time
Also the guys from Inside Line mention the same thing about the clutch " but it has some type of thoroughly annoying drivetrain-saver system that bogs the power down temporarily just as you let the clutch out for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts ". When I drove it I thought that the clutch is not good, but now I found out its some sort of system!!!
As tibbytib said " One reason why we ALL fell in love with the Tibs back in the day is they were SUPER affordable! They handled great, and for the money had great performance, and were styled very well. " that's the truth
I don't want some heavy ass car that is slow with stupid systems that don't allow me to change gears at red line, base price 27000$ + and so on
Now I know why I'm still in love with my Tibby
This weekend I drove with it around 450miles and sometimes the speed was around 140 miles ( speedo )
I'll test drive the 3.8 and I think that will be much better or at least I really hope so...
