Default Loose fuel cap = CEL?

Will our cars throw a CEL if the fuel cap isnt on tight? I have driven around before with my cap off (by accident of course) and never received a CEL, but I have heard its a common thing with other cars.

Yes, sometimes it can cause a CEL. I don't see why the Elantra would be an exception. It happened once in my RD Tiburon.

Yes. It may take 3 drive cycles, but I couldn't tell you first-hand.

Yes, it will throw one eventually. Mine did it because the cap wasn't tight enough.
