Sounds like IAC happen to my j2. Got a CEL and took it to the parts store to get a read. I figure that was the problem and it was. Grabbed one from the salvage yard and problem solved.
If it dies at idle then it sounds like it bad. If the idle drops and you gas it then it's fine it could probably use a cleaning.

While you have the nasty solvents out to clean the idle air control valve, clean the throttle body butterfly as well.
Is this a new problem or a new-to-you car with this problem?

Was any work done soon before it started?
There was a recall when these cars were new, something to do with the MAF sensor wiring for stalling at low speed. Was it fixed on your car?
