Third gear grinding

I have a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon with 136,000 miles on the car and the transmission has never been replaced

My problem is that when shifting into third gear there is:

- Flywheel chatter/grinding (Nothing different than the chatter when learning how to shift a manual car)

- Troublesome and refuses to engage and stay into third gear at the time of shifting

- Shifter pops quickly back out into neutral

- IT DOES go INTO third gear easily after trying repeatedly along with pressing in the clutch pedal in different ways.

Drives and runs great besides this minor problem during regular driving during the week.

It is not a huge problem but becoming more of a hassle and it is now requiring special attention to put it into third gear. There is no noise coming from the transmission so I don't think it is a worn out synchro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried adjusting your shifter cables? Inspect the shifter cable bushings/ hardware on top of the trans

When was the oil last changed?

1500 miles ago the oil was changed.

So does anyone know why my car keeps popping out of third gear and into neutral after a few seconds of driving?

What oil went into it? The last time I saw one popping out of gear that didn't need cables adjusted - it was bearing related and the transmission failed. It was doing it in all gears; not picking on third. If you ride around resting your hand on the shifter its possible something wore out faster than it should have and is causing that.

I would go double check the cables, bushings, etc.

I cleaned the white lithium grease off that was on it and so far so good.
