Default Need Help! asap PLEASE!

Hey guys, recently one of my headlights went out, and I finally found some PIAA bulbs, well, I went to replace it today, and when I pulled the bulb out, I saw that the reason the light went out is because it had exploded! How do I get the peices out of there? Or do I nod need to, and just go ahead and install new bulbs?? Thanks for your help in advance! By the way, these are low beams on a first gen.. Thanks!

You could probably get all the little glass bits out by removing the headlight housing and shaking 'em out. It'd take a little time and patience. Are any of them melted or stuck into the plastic or anything nasty like that?

I'm not sure what caused it to burst like that, but just to be on the safe side, be sure not to touch the glass of the new bulbs you put in. If you do, wipe them with a lint-free cloth before putting them in. Finger oils and dirt can heat the glass to the point of popping like that. If they're still breaking like that, then there might be a problem with your wiring.

Iago, thank you for the quick reply. It was the driver's side, so I took my battery out and stuck my head down there w/ a flashlight and peeked inside.. I did not see any glass pieces at all, except for a very few little tiny flakes. I also checked to make sure there were none stuck in the wiring for the headlights, etc. Will it hurt anything to leave any little glass pieces that might be in there, in there? At least temporarily?

The one that blew up was a Hiper Xenon bulb.. when I installed it, I held it by the plastic with a clean rag between my hand and it, so I'm not sure what caused it to explode like it did. I sure as hell hope these ones don't blow up, 92$ for a pair of low beam bulbs? Sheesh, ridiculous, and they don't even have the same blueish tint to them sad.gif

Thanks again smile.gif

Jesus $92 a pair for PIAA's? Those run for $60 here in LA!

The only way to get the glass out of there is to remove the headlight (4 bolts) and shake the pieces out.

There should be no damage in leaving the pieces in there other than a "rattle" sound that you might hear.

Ok, I am extremely dissatisfied with these. They look no different than stock, no brighter, no whiter. For damn near 100$, I expected something more. Think anywhere would allow me to return used headlights? I bought them from Car Toys (Only place around here that I could find that sold them)

These are the ones that I had one explode of, I bought them about 2 and a half-3 months ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebay...7168599&r=0&t=0

I really liked the way they looked, really bright and had the nice blue tint to it that I love. What do you guys think of Hiper, and if I can return these PIAAs, I was thinkin about gettin these lights: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebay...7340138&r=0&t=0

which appear to be the same as what I had. What do you guys think? I really could use some help with this. Thanks again smile.gif

The ones you have in the second e-bay post look dimmer than the "yellow" bulb they replace.

In general, stay away from any bulb that has a "blue" tint to the glass, that just cuts down on the ammount of light let out of the housing.

I just use cheap azz www.jcwhitney.com bulbs in Plazma white. They come with a phunky rainbow tint to the glass that changes the color of the light to more white and less blue, and they still kick out serious light, and they are only $9 a bulb!

Extremely dissatisfied. I just pulled my 1988 Dodge Daytona into my driveway, then pulled my Tibby into the driveway, side by side and the same distance from my garage doors, turned on the lights in both and the PIAA ones looked the EXACT same as the friggin stock 88 daytona's lights. Grrr Car Toys damn well better let me return these. Ninety dollars for stock light-quality is a bit much. eek.gif sad.gif

Random, are those lights you buy noticeably brighter than stock? If so, is it just that they appear whiter? Thanks for the info on the blue ones. I love the look though, tough choice. Will pry end up going for those cheap azz ones, as you so eloquently put it from JC Whitney if they infact are whiter. Thanks again. wink.gif
