Loud squeeking

Hey this just started happening about 2 days ago. When I start my car up, a VERY loud sqeel is coming from around the pulley area. It eventually stops after 1 minute of idling, but starts back up when being in a low gear and turning. If I turn the steering wheel all the way one direction, the loud squeel comes back and the battery light slowly comes on, but shuts off once i release the steering wheel. Any Ideas?

The belt on the power steering pulley appears to be tight, going to check the belt on the alternator now.
EDIT:
Just checked the altenator, is there suppost to be 2 nuts on each side of this?

that little block is threaded

still say your belt is loose expecially if the battery light flickers

WytchDctr 09-07-2010 07:18 PM

one side, the block itself is threaded for the longer bolt . You are missing a nut

faithofadragon 09-07-2010 07:24 PM

hmmm i thought both sides where? oh well im not running the stock setup anyways to remember

looks like you lost your nuts

You were half right. The longer bolt has threads for it, the smaller one needs a nut, at least that is how mine is setup.

Yup thats how mine is. I just tightened the threaded bolt, put a new washer + bolt on the horizontal side. No sqeeks, works nicely now.

if you ever get belt squeal, you can spray carb cleaner into the grooves. it'll stop the noise for a while temporarily. i always do it when my belts get loud.

carb cleaner eats rubber

so you just reduced the life of your belts
