Inner Tie Rod Replacement!

Hello guys, my car needs an inner tie rod. My mechanic wants something crazy to do it and I keep hearing I need a special took to remove it.

I checked for a DIY for this, but nothing :(

What is involved? Should I just let my mechanic do it?

Umm the only special tool you should need is a pickle fork.

This should be all thats involved:

Use pickle fork to pop off outer tie rod end.

Pull boot from inner tie rod end.

Remove the nut holding the inner tie rod on.

Mark the location/distance of your outer tie rod before putting it on the new inner.

Torque it all down and check your alignment.

For the inner he needs either a big Crescent wrench or a inner tie rod removal/installer tool. It's a long tube with different wrench adaptor to use on differnt cars and then you turn it with a 1/2" wrench. You can buy this at Harbor freight or buy a name brand one from Lisle for like $70.

You cant see the hex part that you need to turn untill you remove the boots. It is very possible to do it with a crescent wrench by doing one side at a time by turning the wheel all the way to one side which puts the tie rod as far out as possible to you can get to the 4 sided part of the inner rod that needs to be loosend.
