Help! Leaky bolt on tranny!
Hey guys, i noticed my shifts were getting a little crunchy so i decided to check up on the gearbox oil level. I unbolted the oil check bolt and I pulled the rubber breather from the top of the tranny and started to fill up and noticed nothing was comming out indicating the fluid wasn't at that level like it should've. So i filled and filled until i started to hear drips and it wasn't comming from the oil check bolt hole.
It's comming from a bolt that is VERY close to the oil check bolt but it's like at a 45 degree angle, lower than the oil check bolt and to the left. I thought it was loose but it was tight so i loosened it up and backed it out like 2mm and the dripping stopped. I retightened the bolt only to find the dripping started up again. I can't find out what this bolt is on the webtech site so i was hoping any of you guys might know what its for. I'm afraid to take it out as it might secure something inside of the tranny itself and i might end up screwing something. Any ideas on how to fix this?????
Here's a pic...
Ignore the notation for the drain plug. The plug i'm identifing is towards the left half of the pic. The oil check plug shoots straight left and the plug i'm speaking of is underneath it at a 45 degree angle....my gear oil is dripping at the lowest point of the bolt when tightened all the way.
UPDATE :Actually IT GETS WORSE. The whole tranny is leaking
. And i just had this thing rebuilt last spring from AAMCO for $2200. It's leaking all along the center of the tranny where the two sides meet. It's a very sloooow leak but it's leaking. AAMCO evidently didn't use a gasket...just that silicon gasket sealant stuff. Guess it didn't work and i'm out of their warranty. I hate this crap.

Well Turb, my neighbor Chris, behind me happens to own a tranny shop and he said he'll fix it up. I was told also they don't make a gasket for that and that they use come kind of gasket sealant.
Chris also said that a lot of crooked tranny shops will put a good amount of sealant everywhere but the bottom...they'll put a thin layer so that it will start to leak after the warranty period. Thats EXACTLY what it looks like.
Cracking open a tranny is no small deal and i would loose as much money from missing work fixing this damn thing myself rather than taking it to a shop and let them handle it.
I still haven't figured out why it was leaking from that bolt too. I'll have to ask Chris about that. Thanks guys. sad.gif
SCREW AAMCO... "DOUBLE 'A', HA HA, WE F@#! UP YOUR TRANNY" PEOPLE.
