elantra 2002 overheating

hi my elantra is running hot water is rusty so i flushed it out still running hot heater working when it sits and idles temp is normal but when u drive it over heats any ideas?

The coolant should not be plain water, because it will rust. It should also not be rusty. A thermostat that does not open all the way could cause overheating while driving. Pull the thermostat and check it. Or heck, they're cheap and if it's the original your thermostat is old, just get a new one and see if that was it.

If the coolant is actually oily instead of rusty (looks like coffee) then you may have a blown head gasket.

Hey I'm happy you got it going. Do keep an eye on that coolant color.

Glad to hear it was something simple and cheap!

BTW - Why do you guys not like us quoting posts? Just wondering....

It is sort of weird if the very next post is quoting the post above it. It only annoys me when people quote a long string of pictures... I JUST SAW THEM?!@?!?@!?@!!!@?!?@!@ :BangHead:

junkyard, just call around to a few of your local yards. I'm sure they would have one and it shouldn't be any more than $20 bucks

+1 to be a long term owner of a decade-plus old car, get to know the local junkyards.
