The least obese state in the country, Colorado, is now more obese than the most obese state in the country in 1990, Mississippi.
It's amazing how fast Americans' genetics have changed causing this weight gain. Though I'm sure the astronomical rise in thyroid disorders has something to do with it too. Not to mention all the gluten.

OMG! Evil gluten!!!! It's not gluten. There's nothing wrong with gluten. The only people who should be "gluten free" are people with actual diagnosed Celiac Disease. The problem is 3,000+ calories/day and a lot of couch potatoes.

If by "genetics" you mean "dietary habits" then yes, Americans' genetics have changed. We have sh*t for a diet and eat 30% too much, and nobody moves out of their chairs anymore. That's why the USA is getting fatter, and genetics, thyroid disorder, gluten, or whatever else you have to blame to feel better about being fat, is going to be the root cause in single-digits or less of all the fat people out there.
