Short Shifter "sticking"
I just installed a MHP Shortshifter and a momo raptor knob. I did have to cut, but I noticed that the gear cables are rubbing against the metal bar under the plastic "mount". Take a look at my website for more pics. shark.deckernet.net
When I shift into second, there is a 1/2 second delay as it hits the bar and jumps over it. Could I damage or mess anything up if I put some spacers under the plastic plate so I can elevate the cables over the metal hump? Thankx, I noticed this when I was racing a Sunfire. Still smoked him, but I should've done better. ta -nico |

#1. Grind down the "wall" that is about 1/4" high. Also put a angle on the edge.
#2. Grind down this whole area to a smoother angle. Also put a angle on the lip. If you can, smooth the plastic aftewards with sandpaper. This was the bigges sticking point I had. #3 Get rid of that little lip there. Grind it flat. I also got rid of that "appendage" that is between 2 and 3 but above them...sticking into the opening. I'll dig out my photos and post them up sometime this weekend. Also...make sure your nuts are tight...but not TOO tight. You can firm up the shifter a little by tighting them up...but...too tight will destroy the plastic bushings. |
Btw...Nice DIY guide. Good photos and good instructions!

Sweet, I also threw in some washers under the front two bolts, so that its elevated a little. The gear cable dosen't rub against the metal anymore and doesn't rub against the plastic on the base after I dremeled away that little ridge! Thankx guys.
Only problem now, is that its hitting the metal circle around the stick after the whole unit is back together, so it'll slowly wear away my boot. Any suggestions? ta -nico |
Mine was rubbing to against the metal. But it finally rubbed enough down so it doesn't rub anymore. But, mine hits the ring too and it already torn a hole in the boot. Try to bang the top of the shifter forward that should work. Haven't done mine because of the hand surgery I had so I cann't jam the gears hard anymore not for a month or so anyway. But that should work.
