Lifetime Warranties

Hyundai was the first to offer a 100K/10 Year warranty on their powertrain. Anyone think they eventually will offer a lifetime one at some point?

A lifetime warranty on the most expensive part of a car would be pretty dumb.

Dodge did it. It required an inspection at certain mileage markers to keep it going. It did not include their SRT4 or diesel models. It didn't hang around long and no one else jumped on it. Now that it is gone... I doubt hyundai will try it. The lack of a warranty after 100k means people who like that will come back to buy another hyundai to get a new warranty.

100k is enough that most people will never use it before getting rid of the car. After the first owner, I'm guessing the odds of poor maintenance go down pretty fast. Maybe I could see a lifetime warranty with factory-only service on schedule but otherwise no way.

lifetime warranty*

*warranty is valid until the car breaks down, thus demonstrating that its life is over
