I have a rust spot (swell) on the passanger rear fender.
Rust is not seen, but I know that under paint should be rust.

What to do with it?
Can I repainted it myself? (is it difficult)?

take a picture of it man so we can see it, rust is a product of bare metal exposed to the environment and allowed to oxidize, if no bare metal is present, there shouldnt be any rust. sounds like a previous owner might have just painted over the rust spot. but we cant tell cuz u didnt give very many details, or a pic. usually with rust u would need to sand the rust away, prime, and paint but i dont know if thats what needs to be done here

I don't have digital camera 02.gif

It looks like there are big bubles under the paint (like 1/2 inch wide and 1/16" thick). If you touch (press) these bubles they will not move (same feeling like you're touching normal painted body without "bubles").

I think previous owner painted it over rust. And now it got worse 02.gif

if you can get it.. Por15 works great on rust. Sand down the paint and metal until you get to the rust. Chip out all the loose stuff and maybe hit with a wire brush, and then apply the POr15. It should chemically bind to the rust and keep it from spreading.. in essence, forming a stable "metal" to work with.

How to paint it that after I sand rust?

Should I use spray paint? What about polishing?
Do you use polishing machine?

Mad-Machine 05-16-2005 05:04 AM

unfortunatly Dmitry, any rust repair is a serious blemish on the looks of the car. Do you know anybody who could mix some paint for you and just reshoot that panel?

Dmitry 05-16-2005 02:27 PM

only paint shop

BTW does anybody have a little rust on the bottoms of the doors?

Mad-Machine 05-16-2005 04:38 PM

Honestly Dmitry, I lived a tenth of a mile from the Atlantic Ocean for years with my cars. My italians rotted like crazy, my Hyundai's never had a spot.

You know where the rubber seal is around the front of the hood? well if you open the hood i have rust right there on that black metal strip that the seal is connected to. and because my hood sits against it there is some(very little)rust on the hood. how easy would that black strip of metal be to replace? granted someone will tell me to take a picture but im not at home and wont be for awhile so i was just asking.

The only way to get a good finish after a rust repair is to get it professionally refinished. Either the affected panel or the entire car.

The metal strip that holds down the hood weatherstripping rusted on my 2000 Tib also. It is very easy to remove and reinstall. I took a wire brush and sandpaper to mine and repainted it with black rust paint. It looks okay and has lasted so far, but it would be best just to replace it with a new piece.
