Rain X De-Icer
Anybody use this stuff? Does it actually melt ice on your windshield or is it just a gimmick?

if you read the jug it actually say's "will remove light frost from window". Calling it De-ICER is kinda misleading.

well maybe. last real good frost, I had a film of green windshield wiper ice on top of my light-frost-ed. Turns out the regular fluid with just alcohol to prevent freezing in the reservoir won't cut much ice at all. I hate to think what it does to the environment but this stuff would be welcome if it works.
If. And I'm not interested enough to google up some online reviews. |
its good at beading the water, but sucks as a washing fluid, it leaves residue & light smears due to its somewhat thicker viscosity...i had to use more than 1/4 of capacity to remove frozen rain and left them wipers on for 5 mins
great at applying rain x and letting water fly away, not so great at leaving a clear windshield. |
Well if you're driving on snow, it's pretty sure you'll be rinsing often so . . . better a clear film than a muddy windshield?
Last TWO freezes, my wipers were icing up as I was on the way to work. Surprisingly, a stick of ice is much worse as a squeegee than a rubber wiper blade. If it prevents THAT, it may be worth having residue on the glass. Maybe. |
