Holy crap that's a lot of wire and electrical tape, lol. They do look pretty sweet though.

i'm not sure why the LED's are linked up singularly and not in groups.

Because the resistor installed requires all the input voltages to be 12v.

It would be better to have arrays set up with groups of LED's in series IMO. But hey, the way he did it works if you don't want to calculate resistor values.
