How many Foam buff pads do you use to buff out the paint?

How many Foam buff pads do you use to buff out the paint?
Do you find that you have to use more than one pad for each material. Like do you prefer to switch to a clean one halfway through the job. Or have you been able to use one foam pad for compounding for the whole car, and just one to do all the glazing or polishing? Thanks!
