How do you decide when micro cloths need replacing?

At what point will microfiber cloths begin causing damage? Do you decide by feel, visual, or both? I have some that are "bald" and CLEARLY only to be used for things like plastic trim, but I also have some older ones with a good amount of pile left in them.

They cost little enough anymore, why not just pitch any that are questionable?
