Heat Sensitive Paint Will Be The Next Big Thing In Modding

If you’ve fallen down the slippery slope of car modifying, the chances are high you’ve promised yourself and your loved one that there’s only one more thing to do to your ride to make it perfect. You are, of course, lying. There are hundreds of stupid things you want to add, but this fascinating paint modification is something you’ll now realise your car needs.

From a small company in Yorkshire (that’s ‘oop north’ to us Londoners) comes this heat sensitive paint work, which transforms a car’s exterior with a drop of rain.

We spoke to AutoKandy owner Darrel Poole who explained that the effect can be used with any colour. When a base layer is chosen (for his Skyline demo car, Darrel chose orange), a layer of black thermal paint is added. In warmer climes (18 degrees and up), the paint stays orange, but when the heat decreases (as you’ll see with the cold water), the colour changes to black instantly; which could be handy if you’re trying to evade an ex. Or the cops…

It’s a perfectly simple idea, but one that’s never been seen before on a whole car. It’s so impressive, in fact, that Darrel’s received calls and emails from West Coast Customs and the Caterham F1 team who have expressed an interest in the product. Not bad for a company that was started just last year…

Am I the only one who thinks this looks incredibly retarded? I hope it's not the next big modding thing. Did anyone as a kid ever own the hotwheel cars that changed color when you ran them under hot water? This is what this reminds me of. :fp:

The fact that it can be sprayed over any base color is new I think, but the effect is not new at all.Alsa Corp has had this available for years. Along with other interesting paint products.

What happens if you drive your car in the rain? It'll look like it's melting. :lmao:

This has been around since the '80s. I remember I had HotWheels that changed colors when you poured cold water over it. They were called HotWheels Color Racers.

I'd drive with it but I sure wouldn't pay for it. Raise your hand if you had Hot Wheels that did this back in the day. :happyanim:

That could be cool if they picked complimentary colors. The sh*t-brown on orange looks like a warm mess.
