Changing side mirrors to a different color

What is the procedure to repaint my weathered side view mirrors from red to black? Can I use just engine enamel, or do I need primer too?

Always best to use primer. For best results:

- Sand off old pant

- Primer

- Sand smooth

- Paint

- Wet sand smooth

- Clear

- Wet sand smooth
