I was driving around town today when suddenly my car decides it hates 2nd gear. It will go to second gear if I down shift from third, but if I go from first to second and stand on the clutch is just grinds. I was told it was my synchronizers going out 02.gif .

Nah I didn't slam it into gear, was just cruising around and then it just decides it doesn't feel like going into second. I might just rebuild it and put a LSD in while I'm at it laugh.gif.
P.S forgot to put my model/year, I have a 1997 FX(manual).

bad syncros, bent shift fork, and/or worn gears, take your pick. Second gear is always the gear that takes the most abuse due to the large change in revs from first to second (largest drop from one gear to another) and the amount of torque the engine can transmit to the wheels. If you think of a gear as a lever, first and second gears are VERY short levers with long handles to put as much engine power as possible into moving the car.
Check the cables, if those are fine then I personally would probably live with it until another tranny problem pops up. Synchros are cheap items to buy, however having to have people dig into the tranny is expensive. Maybe wait for your clutch to start acting up, and replace the clutch/flywheel/synchros at the same time. Then you can check to see if anything else is worn once its open.
Synchros are fairly cheap, 80% of the charge comes from labor. Go to the Hyundai dealership and see how much it would be for all of the gear synchros (might as well replace them all while you have it open). I've personally never done it myself, just had it done under warranty on my GSX, but I can't imagine it being too difficult for a decent mechanic.
