What Size Wire Runs To The Alternator?

I was going to upgrade my wire to the alternator and was wondering what size it was.It looks like it's 12 or maybe 10 gauge but not sure.I cant find anything to tell me on the stock wire.What size should I upgrade to.I was going to run 8 gauge but should I go bigger?

it just looked smaller then that maybe your right.It was kinda late when I looked at it.

Since you are at it why not do the whole "Big 3" wire upgrade?

actually most cars run anywhere from 16-10 gauge.

ive actually never even seen a passenger car with 8 gauge or bigger, so obviousely our little 4 cyl doesnt. only thing ive seen 8 gauge was in some full size trucks.




i just pulled mine off real quick to check, after pulling the little black cover off, it looks to be a 12 gauge wire. but its very easy to get to, and would be a sinch to upgrade.

Thats what I was thinking.As far as upgrade hell ya it's easy,a little to easy.I think this would be the easiest mod ive done so far if not the fastest.

there was some controversy over whether or not you can just replace it. somethign with how the alternator is signalled how much charging it needs to do. check out the diy thread
